Though she has been playing piano since age 9, Mariann Megna is only now finding her way into the spotlight. "I feel like a minstrel." Says Megna, tapping her life experiences, full of so many joys, trials, ups and downs, and humor, always humor!
"You have to keep your smile" . Her first recording teamed her up with Singer/songwriter Nancy Remkus. She and Nancy found a compatibility in their thinking and their voices blendlike honey. They started singing together in 2001 and in 2003 Their Cd "Still" was released. Mariann on piano, wrote half the tunes, and arranged and played the piano on that recording. Her favorite tunes on that CD "Night Ferry", "Teenage Lullaby" and "Dancing in the 'Sand" start to reveal the changing woman, coming into her own at last. Since that time she has been working on a long overdue solo CD. A compilation of music dating back to 1989, tales of her travels and hometown life in Sag Harbor NY, the CD is in the final stages of production, scheduled for an October Release. Titled "Trails", this is the story of a life, with many moods, from Folk, ballads, Honky tonk, some rock and moving into blues. "This will be a tough one to categorize" Mariann says, "I enjoy so many types of music, and like to write that way too", keep changing. She knew she's go back to Pine Point records and put her music in the skilled hands of Roy A. Clark, who also produced her first collaboration with Nancy Remkus, Mariann traveled up to Maine in June to record heroriginal piano tracks on a 1926 Steinway."It was inspiring, what a beautiful instrument". Back to Maine in July to get the lead vocals down, even recording some of the background harmonies, and Mariann loves harmony.
"There are local musicians here in Sag Harbor" says Mariann, 'very talented people singing and playing their instruments far from the city, and consequently, the bright light of celebrity." "I started playing with some of these people, they've become my friends;and when I hear that kind of talent, I want to keep them close, and making music". 'I decided to include these folks on the CD, try to share them with the world, or as far as this CD will go anyway. Roy (the producer) trekked all the way down here from Maine to Sag Harbor with his equipment, Harbor Music Studio graciously hosted us for two days and nights, and we recorded the heart and soul of this talent. I will never regret the expense, and though I haven't even heard the final result, were all we moved by the experience." P.S."I've heard it now...and they sound awesome!! We're in rehearsals, gearing up for a fantastic show!" Mariann Megna Oct 6 2005
